Briefly: Prescription Google Glass, Seagate drive shipments

updated 05:36 pm EDT, Tue March 12, 2013

Google still creating version of Glass for prescription frames

Google has shown it is still developing a version of Glass for wearers of prescription glasses. A photograph on Google+ shows Google employee and wearable computing pioneer Greg Priest-Dorman wearing a version of Glass with the frame seen in the Explorer Edition replaced with seemingly normal glasses. Google states the prescription version will not be ready for release at the same time as the Explorer Edition, but apparently will still make an appearance later this year.

Seagate breaches 2 billion drive shipments barrier

Seagate has revealed that it has shipped two billion hard drives during the company's lifetime. While it took 29 years for the drive manufacturer to hit the billion-drive milestone, it took only four years to hit two billion. The company cites the ever-growing need for storage thanks to user-generated content, HD video from smartphones, and services offering downloads, and expects that the storage requirements for users will quadruple from 2013 to 2015.

You're right to be saying. Sometimes, when writing quickly, reporters make mistakes. I'll have them fix that one.

PS. Regarding the story: I love how they hide the HUGE HONKING BATTERY that powers the thing by doctoring these photos. The battery normally sits behind the ear.

I've never heard anyone say prescription frames. Should be prescription lenses. You don't need a prescription to get frames..?

    Beta is not always good

This is the down side of Google's approach when they try to treat hardware the same way they approach software, beta = play = good.
Google obviously haven't done enough preparation for this device – so I think it's highly irresponsible for them to promote a product that hasn't been properly tested and could possibly be harmful to someone's vision. It's one thing to solicit feedback and testers, it's another thing to market and promote it as a consumer-ready product.
