Apple eBay shop Macs $100 less than official refurbs

updated 02:53 pm EST, Fri March 8, 2013

Discounts up to $50 available on iPads, iPods

At its eBay refurb store, Apple is now selling the 13.3-inch MacBook Air for $899 -- $100 less than the price of a similarly refurbished model at the official online Apple store, AppleInsider notes. Other products are also getting unusual deals, such as 32 and 64GB iPod touches, which are going for $179 and $229 -- $30 and $50 off Apple's normal refurb costs. Verizon models of the iPad 2 are listed at $429 for 32GB and $529 for 64GB, in each case $50 less than normal.

It's not clear why Apple would be undercutting its own prices, but in general the company is presumably trying to clear out inventory while simultaneously making more money off of eBay. Used Apple products are common on the site, but the company doesn't make any money off most transactions. For shoppers, an official refurb includes a one-year warranty, and in the case of iPads and iPods, a new battery.

    It is NOT Apple

    http://gizmodo.com/5961997/apple-is-selling-stuff-on-ebay-now

Where 'back when' they already clarified "On product pages, there's a note saying: "This seller has been authorized by Apple Inc. to sell Apple Certified Refurbished products on eBay." That would point towards an authorized Apple reseller running the Refurbished Outlet and not Apple."

    Experiment?

If Apple learns anything it's that it can move product incredibly fast if they reduce the prices.
