Google Maps for iOS gets Contacts hooks, category search

Some options region-restricted
Google has pushed out an update to the iOS version of Google Maps, v1.1. The update mainly adds hooks for Google Contacts; by signing in with a Google account, a person can now see a contact's address show up after typing in their name. Also new, though, is the ability to search for local points of interest according to category, such as bars or gas stations.
Users can lastly set miles or kilometers as their preferred measurement. Google warns that not all features of the new app are available in in all countries, but doesn't elaborate on that issue in release notes. Google Maps is a free download for any device running iOS 5.1 or later, but the app has yet to get a native iPad interface.

Still no iPad version...
... still looks no better than a crappy garmin UI.
