Lightworks for OS X to show at NAB in April

updated 04:12 pm EST, Tue March 5, 2013

Software should update for three platforms simultaneously

A Mac version of Editshare's Lightworks video editing suite will be on display during April's NAB show, the company has announced. The port is already on a delayed schedule, and may still have more time to go, since Editshare hasn't made any mention of alpha or beta tests. The company is, however, shifting to a more universal code base, which should allow the Windows, Linux, and Mac versions to be updated almost simultaneously. The Linux version is about to go into public beta.

Lightworks is currently Windows-only, but sports features such as 2K video, multi-camera editing, and format compatibility including DPX, RED, ProRes, DNxHD, and Universal Media Files. Media can be shared relatively easily with other editing platforms such as Avid and Final Cut. A basic version is free, but access to all features requires the $60-per-year Pro edition.
