Facebook reopens PMD system, restarts application process

updated 04:02 pm EST, Mon March 4, 2013

More stringent restrictions applied to badge, admission into program

Effective immediately, Facebook is accepting applications to the renovated Preferred Marketing Developer (PMD) program, as well as new requirements for the PMD badge. The new system prioritizes companies who have proven success working with Facebook teams. As an additional requirement, all PMD applicants must have a "deep knowledge and understanding across all badged areas to ensure marketer success."

The PMD badge requirements facilitate the implementation of features such as boosting Page content in news feed, accessing Open Graph insights for app developers, or taking a integrated look on page insights across owned, paid and earned media.

To get the badge, PMDs and program candidates must fully comply with all Facebook policies, demonstrate a close partnership with Facebook, be always up-to-date in terms of Facebook naming conventions, understand all the developer updates related to the platform, have a portfolio with "several Fortune 500 brands or thousands of smaller advertisers, show value above Facebook's native tools, and be able to advise marketers on ad spending."

The entire PMD system was temporarily closed in February by the company. Facebook claimed it was reevaluating its badge requirements, and to deal with the volume of applications it had already received.
