iTunes streaming new David Bowie album through March 12th

updated 10:34 am EST, Fri March 1, 2013

Streaming strategy only applying to high-profile albums

Today through March 12th, the iTunes Store is streaming the entirety of David Bowie's new album, The Next Day. The record is Bowie's first since Reality in 2003. The 12th marks the official premiere date for the album, and Apple is using the run-up to boost pre-orders, which have already put the album on the top of iTunes charts in 34 countries.

Apple periodically streams full albums to drum up publicity. So far, though, only major acts have received the treatment, such as Jack White and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Many artists, though, do take advantage of iTunes' pre-order support.

So you're actually admitting that you're just going to pirate the album and not buy it? Stay classy jpellino.

It's a great record, and I am planning on buying the Japanese edition to get all the bonus tracks. The price of the digital album ($14 on pre-order) is very modest for what you're getting there, and it's the least one could do to thank Bowie for his many decades of great music, including this record. Props to Spheric Harlot for having class and taste. :)
