Sony PS4 screenshots reinforce deep social gaming integration

Sony has published the first official user interface screenshots from the forthcoming PS4 gaming console, following its controversial PS4 'unveiling' last Wednesday. The screenshots are yet another prong in what will now be Sony's months long slow tease as it leads up to the unveiling of the actual PS4 hardware, possibly at the June E3 gaming conference. The new images reinforce the heavy social interaction and integration that will become a cornerstone of its next-gen gaming platform.

Among the screenshots are a captures of the game home screens that show which other friends own the same game the most viewed in game videos. Player profiles show the games and trophies that a player owns and has won, as well recent gaming activity. One screenshot shows a social gaming hub where users can share and comment on other users in game posts, much like traditional social networks.

Sony's internationally live streamed unveiling drew in an audience of over 8 million people, many of whom were perplexed when the company opted not to reveal the PS4 hardware, claiming later that the design is not yet finalized. Instead, it revealed its new DualShock controller and focused on some of the exclusive titles being developed for it, as well as the deep social integration. In the day after the event, Sony also revealed the technical specifications of the PS4.
