Selling iMac, how to install brand new OS

Today, Grizzled Veteran "jmiddel" announced that they are selling their iMac, but they are looking for a way to install a copy of Mountain Lion that can be transferred to the new owner along with the computer. Also today, Mac Elite "euphras" was looking for a way to determine what capacity their VRAM sticks that they have lying around are, from a machine that was built in the early '90s.

Yesterday, one Fresh-Faced Recruit was looking for help with some sync issues they were having using iCal with iCloud. "Laminar" recently re-obtained a Ruby iMac that they owned in high school, and they are now wondering if anyone had any creative ideas about what to do with it. Yesterday, "SillyPants" started a lengthy discussion about converting hard links to symlinks/aliases with some saying it can't be done, while other's offer up some suggestions.
