New Dell Latitude 10 tablet boasts DoD-level encryption

updated 03:46 pm EST, Mon February 25, 2013

Device employs two-factor authentication for user ID

Dell today deployed the Latitude 10 with an enhanced security configuration -- a business-ready tablet designed to address the security challenges faced by the nature of the mobile devices. The Dell Latitude 10 is aimed at highly-regulated industries such as government agencies, financial institutions and healthcare organizations, meeting the encyption and security requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and the Federal Information Processing Standard.

The new tablet model is powered by the dual-core Intel Atom Z2760. The screen is a 10.1-inch 1366x768 IPS LCD, with five-finger touch. Additionally, the tablet relies on dual authentication to confirm authorized use, with a integrated smart card and fingerprint reader.

Should less stringent security be needed, the tablet is also available in the "essentials" configuration, in 32 and 64GB sizes. The essentials version lacks the fingerprint and smart card readers, but retains the trusted platform module that the enhanced security configuration boasts.

The Dell Latitude 10 Enhanced Security is available worldwide today and costs $779. The Latitude 10 essentials configuration with 64GB is available starting at $579. The Latitude 10 essentials 32GB configuration is available for $499.
