Game makes transition from PC, consoles

Feral Interactive has released a promised Mac port of TT Games' LEGO Lord of the Rings. The game is based on the Peter Jackson film trilogy, and samples some of the movies' dialogue, but recreates the characters and scenery in LEGO and uses a more abridged and lighthearted version of the story. In gameplay, it mixes action and puzzle content with some RPG-like elements.

Over 80 characters are playable in the game, each with special powers; Frodo, for instance, can briefly wear the Ring. Players collect LEGO bits as they progress, and can craft items such as armor, swords, and magical staffs. A co-operative mode supports two players.

The Mac edition costs $30. It requires OS X 10.7.5 or later, along with a 1.4GHz processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128MB of video memory.
