LG teases four smartphones, NFC tags in MWC trailer

Mobile devices will be associated with letter V, L, F, and G

LG has teased that it could be showing off as many as four new smartphones at Mobile World Congress next week. A teaser video on YouTube shows a number of references to the word "Tag", as well as highlighting specific letters in words: The V in "The View," the L in "The Style," the F in "The Freedom", and the G in "The Greatness."

The individual letters could signify model numbers of a range, with each being associated with the word it is hidden inside. Though it could be for an entirely new range of mobile devices, it is possibly revisions of existing handsets, such as the V standing for the Optimus Vu.

The repeated use of the word "Tag" more likely refers to NFC stickers, something that LG has worked on and showed at Mobile World Congress last year. The Tag+ stickers could be stuck to various surfaces and can be configured to send a specific message when communicated with. For example, a Tag+ sticker with a "Sleep" command set onto it could theoretically turn off all network connections the phone has, lower the brightness, and set an alarm for the next morning. Considering talks from other parties ahead of the event, Mobile World Congress is likely to see NFC as a major topic this year.
