Microsoft job postings confirm Windows Blue development

Incremental paid updates to Windows potentially on the horizon

Microsoft has effectively confirmed it will be offering a yearly refresh to Windows 8, through a pair of job postings. The scheme, dubbed Windows Blue and Windows Phone Blue for the mobile version, was directly named in notices on the Microsoft Careers site, with the scheme itself revolving around paid periodical updates to Windows 8.

The two postings, since removed by Microsoft, was seeking a developer for the Core Experience team in Windows Sustained Engineering, the part of Microsoft that deals with designing the overall user interface of the operating system. Windows Blue, according to ZDNet, would be more than the service packs seen in previous iterations of Windows, instead being a move towards a faster update cycle. Both Windows Blue and Windows Phone Blue are expected to offer new features to the operating systems, and will integrate the two platforms together, from a user standpoint and also for developers working on apps and services.

Though Windows Blue is set to become more of a refinement of Windows 8 than a completely new operating system, it still leaves Microsoft the option of developing and releasing a new version of Windows in the future.
