iOS 6.1.2 due early next week, report claims

Expected to fix Exchange glitches, lockscreen vulnerability

iOS 6.1.2 is already in development and should go live early next, say sources for German website iFun. The site adds that the firmware will probably go live before February 20th, and that it's expected to close the lockscreen vulnerability discovered in iOS 6.1, along with Exchange problems. It could conceivably fix other issues as well, but these aren't mentioned by iFun.

Although requiring several steps, and granting only limited access, the bypass technique is public knowledge and potentially a security threat. It lets people view and edit contacts, browse photos, or even listen to voicemail messages. Only iPhone owners are affected, since it requires exploiting the Emergency Call feature.

An iOS 6.1.1 already exists, but was delivered exclusively to iPhone 4S owners to fix 3G connection difficulties. In beta form the firmware was originally slated to upgrade the Japanese Maps app, but those changes appear to have been pushed to a later release.
