May make software most quickly-adopted for jailbreaks
Almost 7 million iOS devices have been jailbroken since evasi0n was released earlier this week, according to Jay Freeman, administrator of the Cydia app store for jailbreakers. Cydia tracking has so far recorded about 5.15 million iPhones, 1.35 million iPads, and 400,000 iPod touches. Freeman claims that the numbers make evasi0n the most rapidly-adopted jailbreak utility to date.
The admin says that evasi0n has brought "insanely more new traffic" than Absinthe, which was designed for iOS 5. Jailbreakme3, a web-based jailbreak from 2011, was only used on 1.4 million devices in its first nine days, Forbes notes.
The popularity of evasi0n could stem from several factors. There are now more iOS devices on the market than ever, and Freeman points out that anticipation may have built up to intense levels, since it took 136 days for iOS 6 to be cracked. In the end, hackers had to exploit five different bugs in the firmware to make a jailbreak possible.
