CES showed eight-inch screen, October launch demoed 10-inch

After missing its original ship date in October, Android-focused gaming tablet WikiPad has seen a redesign and a new launch date announcement. The device no longer boasts a 10.1-inch screen, and now has a smaller 7-inch display and a smaller price. The new version reportedly ships this spring, and has been cut to $249.

The tablet still runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has 16GB of storage, boostable with a microSD card. A Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with 1GB of RAM powers the device. Also equipped are a front-facing 2MP camera, a micro-HDMI port, and a 4100 mAh battery. Gaming input is provided by two analog sticks, a D-pad, and four buttons. The display runs at 1280x800.

Wikipad president of sales Fraser Townley told Joystiq with regards to the retooling and release of the seven-inch tablet that "the overwhelming opinion was that, although $500 was justifiable for what we were delivering, it was a tough one for a lot of the gamers."
