Evasi0n untethered jailbreak released for iOS 6, 6.1

updated 01:06 pm EST, Mon February 4, 2013

Most iOS devices supported

The Evad3rs hacking team has released its promised jailbreaking tool for iOS 6 devices. Known as evasi0n, the software supports any version of iOS 6 through 6.1, and is available in Mac, Windows, and Linux editions. It's also untethered, meaning that it doesn't require connecting to a computer and reapplying the jailbreak if an iOS device is rebooted.

Compatible devices include the iPhone 3GS through the iPhone 5, the fourth- and fifth-generation iPod touch, and the iPad 2, iPad mini, and third- and fourth-generation iPad. The second-generation Apple TV is also supported, but not the recent 1080p-equipped unit. The Evad3rs team warns that anyone using a tethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1 on an iPhone 4 or fourth-gen Touch should restore to the stock release of v6.1, unless they're using ultrasn0w.

Macs must be running OS X 10.5 or later, while Windows users must have XP, and Linux users required x86/x86_64. The Evad3rs team also suggests backing up before any jailbreak, disabling passcode lock, and avoiding any use of iOS or iTunes while the jailbreak is in progress.

    Finally!!

I never consider a version of iOS "released" till the Jailbreak comes out. I'm sure you'll see a large adoption if iOS 6.1 today and tomorrow.

On Wednesday, expect iOS 6.1.1 to come out and stop the fun.
