First Vertu Android smartphone leaked early

Vertu Ti surfaces ahead of February 12 launch

Former Nokia-owned luxury handset maker Vertu has had its first Android-powered handset leaked early. Now British-owned, the company has also dropped the Symbian OS that previously powered Vertu handsets with the more ubiquitous Android OS. The leaked model is said to be called the Vertu Ti, which incredibly, is expected to retail for anywhere upwards of $4000 or more, despite modest specifications.

The spec sheet for the Vertu Ti does not equate to its retail price. More in line with a mid-range Android handset, the Ti will sport a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and center on a low-resolution 800x480 display. It's battery is a mere 1,250mAh, despite the thickness of the housing, while it will also run Android 4.04 'Ice Cream Sandwich' instead of the latest flavor of Jelly Bean.

Considered status symbols because of the materials used in their construction, the Vertu Ti can be expected to utilise Titanium, given its name, as well as steel, leather and will incorporate a sapphire glass screen and a polished ceramic mount for the logo. The handset is expected to be officially announced on February 12. [via Pocket-lint]
