Next LG Optimus L7 makes unofficial debut in Russia

LG looks set to begin the 2013 revamp of its L-series range of entry-level smartpphones. The first to surface is what may be the sequel to the Optimus 7, which has been leaked through Russian website Hi.tech.mail.ru. The Korean archrival to Samsung revealed that it sold 8.6 million Android smartphones last quarter and is aiming to build on that this quarter.

From a tech spec standpoint, the new handset is no Optimus G or Nexus 4. It runs a 1GHz dual-core processor, but centers on a 4.3-inch display. It includes an upgraded 8-megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 720p video. LG has packed in a large 2460mAh battery that is said to help keep the device powered over two days. It runs Android 4.1 'Jelly Bean,' and also supports dual-SIM cards.

There are no details on an expected international roll out, although its precedecessor reached a number of markets around the globe. News of the new handset coincides with the return of the LG Nexus 4 to the Google Play store in North America and in other markets including Australia. LG, like Samsung, is following a strategy of making Android smartphones in a range of categories to help broaden its appeal and gain market traction. [via Engadget]
