Huawei Ascend G615 revealed ahead of German launch

updated 09:47 am EST, Tue January 22, 2013

Similar device to G520, improved processor, RAM

Huawei has revealed the Ascend G615 Android smartphone on its German-language website. The mid-range mobile will have a 4.5-inch 1280x720 resolution display and overall seems similar to the recently-announced Ascend G520 heading to China, though the two handsets do have a number of small differences in specification.

The biggest difference comes from the G615 using a Huawei-made 1.4GHz quad-core processor, while the G520 uses a MediaTek MT6589 quad-core chip running at 1.2GHz. The G615 also has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage expandable by up to 32GB, a 2150mAh battery offering a claimed 11 hours of talk time, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with flash and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel counterpart. The quad-band handset will allow for data connection speeds as high as 21Mbps over HSPA+, as well as offering Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 HS, and DLNA connectivity options. Android Community also claims that, while it will launch with Android 4.0, the Jelly Bean upgrade to 4.1 will be ready by March.

The Ascend G615 will go on sale in Germany in February. A US release has yet to be confirmed, but the G615 will be made available in a number of international markets shortly after the German launch.
