LG’s not-quite ‘ultimate’ Optimus G goes global

updated 06:24 am EST, Tue January 22, 2013

LG Optimus makes late global rollout

Coinciding with NTT DoCoMo's announcement that it will be among the first to get LG's very latest superphone, the 5-inch 1080p Optimus G Pro, LG has announced that its 1 million-selling Optimus G will make a belated global rollout. First unveiled in late August, the Optimus G will reach 50 new markets this month. Not including its Nexus 4-variant, the Optimus G has only been available in Korea, Japan, and North America since its debut.

Despite this, LG's CEO of its mobile division, Dr Jong-seok Park says that he hopes "consumers will take a deep, hard look at [the] Optimus G when deciding which smartphone will give them the best 4G experience." The next market to get the handset will be Singapore at the end of this month, with others added to the mix in quick order. Australian customers can also look forward to the handset debuting on Telstra's 4G LTE network by March.

The Optimus G runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz paired with 2GB of RAM. It also includes Qualcomm's next-gen Adreno 320 GPU. Its 4.7-inch WXGA display uses IPS tech and has a native 720p resolution of 1280x768 pixels. On its rear is a 13-megapixel camera with a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera. Storage is capped at 32GB with connectivity including Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n, USB 2.O, A-GPS, MHL, DLNA and NFC. Although getting the 'ultimate' billing by LG in its press materials despite just being superseded, it remains competitive.
