LG Optimus G Pro debuts with 5-inch 1080p display

LG Optimus G Pro revealed with larger display, faster CPU

The LG Optimus G Pro has made its debut in Japan, joining the ranks of the new wave of Android superphones packing 5-inch, 1080p displays. Similarly, it also runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, although this one is clocked slightly higher than some at 1.7GHz. If LG follows a similar rollout plan as it did for the 4.7-inch Optimus G, the new Optimus G Pro should be one of the next markets to be inline for the device.

To help power the 4G LTE equipped handset, LG has squeezed in an extra high capacity 3,000mAh battery to help it get through a working day. The rear camera is rated at 13.2-megapixels while the front is 2.4-megapixels - both incorporate backside illuminated CMOS sensors. The device incorporates 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage that is bolstered by support for microSD cards.

Even though it will find a home in the hands of Japanese users first, the LG Optimus G Pro will not make it onto the Japanese market until April. As with highly specced Sony Xperia Tablet Z, which will also make its global debut in Japan, LG has not announced any plans for its expansion into other markets.

It will also be interesting to see if, as with the Optimus G, LG and Google team up on a Nexus variant of the device - it seems inevitable that we can expect to see a Nexus 5 on sale soon. [via NTT DoCoMo]
