Less than 400 of the clear Newton were made
A rare clear-cased Apple Newton 110 has appeared on eBay. The unit was originally listed as a prototype, but was actually given out to a select number of people at Apple's 1994 developer's conference. Less than 400 units were produced. The seller is asking for $1,350 and the sale ends on January 26.
The hardware uses an ARM 610 processor running at 20mhz, with 4MB of ROM, and 640kB of RAM. It featured a 336x240 black and white display. Additional storage was provided by a single 5v or 12v PCMCIA card. The Newton 110 was available starting in March of 1994, and was discontinued in April of 1995. The Inkwell technology in OS X is based on developments made throughout the life of the Newton PDA. A unit nearly the same as the one for sale sold in 2007 for $212.51.
