General counsel takes on outside tasks

Apple's general counsel and senior VP for legal and government affairs, Bruce Sewell, has been appointed to the board of directors for Vail Resorts, according to an announcement. Sewell will start in his new role "immediately," Vail's statement says. The company operates a number of mountain resorts spread across Colorado, California, Nevada, Minnesota, Michigan and Wyoming. One subsidiary, RockResorts, manages luxury hotels.

The statement claims that Sewell is a "lifelong skier" who in between college and law school skied in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. He is also said to have worked as a ski patroller at Windham and Hunter Mountains in New York.

News rarely emerges of Apple executives joining other companies' boards. The most prominent example was former CEO Steve Jobs, who as a result of being a majority shareholder in Pixar ended up on the Disney board of directors following Pixar's acquisition.
