Dell refreshes Inspiron notebook lines, extends battery life

updated 04:28 pm EST, Tue January 8, 2013

New Inspiron models include Intel Core i3, i5, i7 processor options

Dell has revealed updated versions of its Inspiron notebook product line at CES. Customers in the United States, Canada, and other countries will be able to buy notebooks that, following feedback from users, have higher battery capacities and ultra-low voltage versions of Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors, requiring half the power of those used in Inspiron notebooks last year.

The Inspiron 15 and 17 have a 15-inch, 1366x786 and 17-inch, 1600x900 display respectively. Options for Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors are available, along with support for up to 8GB of RAM and storage options running up to 1-terabyte. Integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics are standard, though it can be replaced by Nvidia or AMD Radeon graphics. The Inspiron 15 and 17 is also accompanied by an Inspiron 14 in some regions, but all will have a black matte textured finish with a Chiclet keyboard.

More personalization options are available in the form of the Inspiron 15R, 17R, and 14R in some regions. A choice of colors in Peacock Blue, Fire Red, or Lotus Pink in brushed aluminum is available, along with the option to change the display for one with a 1920x1080 resolution and an anti-glare finish.

All versions include dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI 1.4a support, sound processing via Waves MaxxAudio 4, DVD drives, and a 15-percent loss in weight compared to last year's models.

The Inspiron 15 and 17 start from $430 and $500 respectively, while the Inspiron 15R and 17R cost $550 and $700 each. Prices for the Inspiron 14 and Inspiron 14R are not currently available.
