HiSense brings 84-, 101-inch UHD TVs to CES, we go eyes-on

China's HiSense shows off connected XT900 UHD TV series

We stopped by the huge HiSene display at the opening day of the CES show on Tuesday to check out the Chinese company's UltraHD TV sets. Sporting 3,840x2,160 resolution, the sets included the Ultra-LED XT900 family that will be avaiable in 65-, 84-, and 101-inch sizes. The last one promises to be the largest UHD TV on the market, once it reaches store shelves that is.

The styling is simple thus elegant and should withstand the test of time. The brushed metal bezels may not be the thinnest in the industry, but they are handsome. The amount of heat produced by the panel of the 101-inch XT900 was noticeable when we neared it to look at the pixels. The demo material included highly-detailed still images and not video, however, further underlining the inherent issue that is the shortage of 4K content. There is no word on whether the sets will upscale 1080p content as do competing products from Sony, LG, and Samsung.

The HiSense offerings do promise a 10,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and Precise Local Dimming for more vibrant and brighter images.

Other features of the XT900s include Wi-Fi and Smart TV/Google TV features, 120Hz panels, and active shutter 3D tech. They also include a USB-connected cmaera that lets users perform Skype video calls, gesture control, and facial recognition. The remote controls also have a microphone for voice commands.
Also on display were the previously-seen XT880 sets in smaller sizes (50-, 58-, and 65-inches).
Unfortunately, there are still no release dates or prices set for any of the models for the US market. It is expected that all arrive in stores at the same time, however.
