Global Android 4.1 Galaxy S II update schedule unknown
The Samsung Galaxy S II may be receiving its Android 4.1 update in the near future. Support pages on Samsung Korea's website offers details of the Jelly Bean software upgrade, rumored to have been undergoing testing in August last year, with the KIES-based update lowering the amount of usable internal memory by 1GB, from 12GB to 11GB.
The upgrade will preload Google+, +Talk, Play Books, and Play Movies apps to the smartphone, as well as the Project Butter usability and performance improvements. An Easy Mode and Block mode for the main screen, improved camera functions, Smart Stay, and Pop-up Play also make the transition from the Galaxy S III to its predecessor, according to SamMobile.
Though the update is to roll out on all major South Korean phone networks, there has yet to be any official mention of a global rollout schedule. It took until March for the handset to receive Android 4.0, with most carriers offering the download within the same one-month period.
