Sources now saying no plans for Apple buyout of Waze

updated 04:20 pm EST, Thu January 3, 2013

'No deal' in near future

An Apple buyout of Waze isn't happening "now or anytime soon," sources now tell TechCrunch. The news rebuts earlier claims from multiple outlets, including one by TechCrunch itself that suggested Waze was hoping for a $750 million pricetag. Apple, by contrast, is only said to have been willing to spend $400 million plus another $100 million in incentives.

The new report speculates that Apple and Waze may have talked about a deal, but only in the sense that major corporations regularly talk with smaller businesses about possible acquisitions. The two parties are already closely involved. Waze is supplying some data for iOS 6 Maps, while Apple promotes the official Waze iOS app as a Maps alternative at the App Store.

Or more plainly put, "you want $750, we want $400...no deal...move on".
