CTIA to merge spring event, MobileCon into single trade show

updated 07:11 am EST, Wed January 2, 2013

New larger Las Vegas event to start September 2014

CTIA is combining two mobile trade shows into one larger industry event, starting from next year. The US wireless industry group will merge the existing CTIA spring event, held in Las Vegas during May, with the fall event, renamed MobileCon in 2012 and takes place in San Jose in October, and create a single show that will be held between the two.

The single "super mobile industry trade show" is said by the organization to take the best of the earlier CTIA Show, focussing on technology and consumer electronics, and combine it with the mobile IT solutions and business-oriented MobileCon, in order to cover the entire wireless ecosystem. Soon to be announced partnerships will expand the show offerings, allowing it to have a "weeklong schedule of business and professional development opportunities" for carriers, manufacturers, app developers, and retailers.

The CTIA 2013 and MobileCon 2013 shows will still take place, but will have various "super show programs" incorporated into their schedules, ahead of the 2014 merger. CTIA 2014 will be held in mid-September in Las Vegas, Nevada.
