2014 Kia Sorento to feature Google functionality
Kia Motors and Google announced today a partnership that will see the search giant providing content and search-based APIs for the next generation of Kia's UVO eServices telematics system. The Kia 2014 Kia Sorento CUV, available in the first quarter of 2013, will be the first to implement these new APIs, which will allow for the integration of Google Maps and Google Places into the driving experience.
The partnership will see Google services built into UVO, with UVO relying on Google Maps and Google Places for navigation and location information. Users can take advantage of My POI to send a destination from Google Maps through a smartphone to the UVO system in their vehicle. The destination is then entered into the car's navigation system, allowing for turn-by-turn directions.
UVO, which allows users to control music, phone calls, rearview mirrors, and more with their voice, is powered by Microsoft technology. Kia's UVO eServices is currently compatible with only Apple's iPhone, but Android compatibility is expected for the second quarter of 2013.
