LG OLED TVs now on sale for South Korean market

LG OLED TVs to hit other markets Q1 2013

LG has begun taking orders for organic light-emitting diode televisions for its home market of South Korea. The world's second-largest manufacturer of televisions will begin delivering the new OLED TVs in early February, and LG will be displaying them at 1,400 retail outlets across South Korea. The 55-inch model OLED set retails for 11 million won, or about $10,000.

OLED displays are more energy efficient than LCD displays, and they give higher contrast images than LCDs. Due to their thinness, OLED displays also open up new possibilities for device form factors, meaning that future devices may have displays that fold or roll up. LG's rival, Samsung, already uses the technology in many of its best-selling smartphones, and is thought to be on the verge of rolling out its own OLED televisions.

Reuters reports that the displays will be launching for the United States, Europe, and other Asian markets in the first quarter of 2013.

I think it's more than $10,000. If just $1,000, then I'll take a dozen or so.
