Nexus 10 shows up at Staples, sells out

updated 07:59 pm EST, Sat December 22, 2012

Tablet available for pick-up at Walmart

Google's quick-selling Nexus 10 tablet, out of stock in the Play Store for weeks, was briefly available for purchase yesterday from Staples' online outlet before selling out quickly there as well. The 10-inch, high-resolution tablet is also said to be available for in-person purchase at Staples stores, as well as at some physical Walmart locations. Walmart's website has the 32GB Nexus 10 available for in-store pickup and home delivery, though the earliest customers can expect it to arrive is December 27. Sam's Club also has a product page for the 32GB model, but it is currently listed as out of stock for delivery.

The Samsung-manufactured Nexus 10 is Google's most direct attempt at going head-to-head with Apple's iPad. It was unveiled late this year alongside an LG-made Nexus 4 smartphone, a revamped Nexus 7 tablet, and an update to Google's Android operating system, version 4.2 Jelly Bean. It features a dual-core A15 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.9MP front-facing camera. The most lauded feature of the device has been its screen, as it boasts a resolution of 2560x1600 and a 300ppi pixel density that tops the Retina display in Apple's most recent iPad.

Google's difficulty in keeping the Nexus 10 in stock on its own website is nearly endemic across the Nexus line of devices. The Nexus 4, which delivers high-end specs at a mid-range price, sold out almost immediately following its release, and has continued to sell out whenever it becomes available again. It is as yet unclear whether this is due to very high demand or supply-chain problems between Google and its manufacturing partners. In the case of the Nexus 4, there have been indications that the short supply is due at least in part to the latter.
