Tumblr arrives on iPad, offers landscape viewing, more

Blogging site and service Tumblr has taken the wraps off its long-awaited iPad version (free), offering users a native experience complete with landscape viewing and other iPad-only features such as a new posting "radial" menu. Users can now upload content or blog posts without having to use the web client, and even use Markdown in the new universal app. It also features a new "Explore" tab for finding other Tumblr blogs, and recently received a revamp that improved loading times and quicker navigation, as well as making the UI more customizable.

EA puts most games on sale for holidays

Electronic Arts has lowered prices on some 55 of its iPhone and iPad apps for a limited time as a holiday celebration. Top line titles such as the Need for Speed games and Fifa Soccer 13, among others have been reduced to $1. Highlights for iPhone include Tetris, NBA Jam, Mass Effect: Infiltrator, Monopoly, a selection of Sims games, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, Dead Space, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Trivial Pursuit and many other classic games. The iPad versions of these titles are also on sale, which includes Monopoly HD, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Mirror's Edge and Snood among other titles. The sale presumably runs through Christmas.

Tweetbot for iOS on sale for a limited time

Another iOS app that is currently on sale (for the first time with this latest incarnation) is Tweetbot, which sells separate iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad versions which currently cost $1 each, half off its normal price. Because Twitter puts severe limits on the number of users the desktop version can support, the OS X version of Tweetbot remains priced at $20, but the mobile versions are much less restricted. The app has won a devoted following due to features such as its smooth interface, support for multiple timelines, smart gestures, native push notifications, iCloud support for syncing timelines between iPhone and iPad, customizable navigation, draft saving and support for offline readers such as Readability, Pocket and Instapaper.
