Leak places Samsung ATIV S for mid-December launch

A tipster has handed Mobile Syrup a screenshot from what appears to be a Bell Canada inventory showing that the Samsung ATIV S could be set for sale on December 14. The long-awaited Windows Phone 8 flagship handset is expected retail for $80 on a three-year plan or off-contract for $600. The ATIV S was the first major Windows Phone 8 handset to be unveiled earlier this year, however it has been subject to delay with speculation surrounding the short supply of its 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display.

Although the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X have garnered much of the media attention due to their widespread availabilty, the Samsung ATIV S has been eagerly anticipated since it was first unveiled in late August. Looking much like an upmarket version of the Galaxy S III Android-powered handset, the ATIV S also features a the same 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display as the Galaxy S III and the same Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz.

However, unlike the Galaxy S III, which is made from cheaper plastic materials, the ATIV S utilizes more premium quality materials. Even though Windows Phone 8 is a new operating system, it offers appeal to users who like Samsung's hardware, but who would prefer a more polished OS experience. When it goes on sale, it will be available in 16GB and 32GB variants.
