Facebook image warns readers away from slow S III downloads

Motorola has attacked the Samsung Galaxy S III in a campaign to advertise the Droid RAZR HD. Updates to the company's website as well as its Facebook page compare the RAZR's various features against the Samsung smartphone, including comparisons of the build quality, speed and battery life between the two handsets.

The image on Facebook, spotted by Droid-Life, warns readers "Don't get stuck downloading from another galaxy," despite the two devices sharing the same processor and modem from Qualcomm. A link takes visitors to a landing page for further comparisons, such as the RAZR HD's Kevlar fibe backing and water-repellant nanocoating for protection, which the Galaxy S III's "plastic back can't say that." Battery power is also claimed to be 20-percent more than that of Samsung's offering.

Motorola has a previous history of attacking its competitors, to relatively mixed results. A 2011 Super Bowl ad implicated Apple users as Orwellian proletarians in a role-reversal of Apple's "1984" spot, though it failed to make a lasting impression, while the "iLost" ad criticizing Apple's Maps app failure in mishandling location data got more attention from the phone using a place that didn't actually exist.
