Lenovo updates ThinkPad X1 Carbon with touchscreen display

Ultrabook gains new display, half a pound in weight

Lenovo has updated its ThinkPad X1 Carbon ultrabook to include a touchscreen display, while keeping the rest of the computer's specifications relatively unchanged. The refreshed notebook has Windows 8 pre-installed, with the 14-inch, 1600x900 resolution display able to take advantage of the operating system's touch-based gesture controls.

Weighing marginally heavier than the three-pound original, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon has options for Ivy Bridge Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, Dolby Home Theater v4 support, Microsoft Lync certification, a HD face-tracking camera, and dual array microphones. Considering the company's current range for the ThinkPad X1, it is also likely to have the same 4GB and 8GB RAM options as already offered, with storage provided by either a 128GB or 256GB SSD.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is already on sale from $1,250, though the Lenovo website does not mention a touchscreen as part of its specifications list. Details from Lenovo state that the touchscreen version will start from $1,500, which if having similar specifications to the base non-touch-enabled model, represents a $250 premium.
