Site to reproduce feel of flipping through magazine

Google has rolled out a redesign of its Google News portal that is meant to reproduce the feel of flipping through a magazine when viewed on a tablet. The new design takes advantage of the touch interface on tablets to allow users to swipe through sections or tap "Explore in depth" to see multiple articles and content related to a particular story. The redesign also adds additional space between articles to help reading ease and identification of important stories.

Google also gave some figures on the rate at which Google News sends users on to news sites. According to the blog post announcing the tablet-centric redesign, Google's news portal generates about six billion visits to news sites per month.

Google is rolling out the new format across the United States over the next few days. Upon last checking, Electronista was unable to pull up the redesigned site. Users can check their access to the redesign by visiting on a tablet, though Google's post specifically mentions the Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and iPad.

I have an iPad 1 and the new layout, in my opinion, is wonderful! The only issue I've had with in the past is that the page automatically refreshed every few minutes. While reading one story the main news page would refresh and the story I wanted to read next, would be gone. Hopefully they did away with auto-refresh.
