Budget handset keeps NFC, adds dual-shot back covers

Nokia has added a new Windows Phone 8 handset to its range, joining the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. The Lumia 620 is the company's "third and most affordable" in its Windows 8 handset range, and is the first to use a new dual-shot color technique to its case design, namely adding a second layer of polycarbonate to create "secondary color blends and depth effects."

Sporting a 3.8-inch LCD ClearBlack display with capacitive multitouch capabilities and a resolution of 800x400, the Lumia 620 is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 512MB of RAM. Internal storage is set at 8GB, expandable to 64GB via microSD, though Microsoft does supply 7GB of cloud storage through SkyDrive. The rear-facing 5-megapixel camera using Nokia's own Cinemagraph lens is supported by a front-facing camera capable of 640x480 video recording. Wi-Fi, GPS and Glonass, NFC connectivity with Wallet support, Bluetooth 3.0, and a 1300mAh battery are also included.

The budget-conscious offering will be available in a range of seven colors, and will retail for $250. Asia will receive the Lumia 620 in January, with Europe and the Middle East receiving it shortly afterwards.
