Redbox Instant details leaked through beta support pages

updated 03:31 pm EST, Fri November 30, 2012

Netflix competitor streamable to iOS, Android, Xbox 360

More details of Redbox Instant by Verizon's streaming service have surfaced, including the all-important subscription rates. The initial selection of devices the Netflix competitor will be available on has also leaked, as well as the existence of a combined streaming and DVD service that still uses the Redbox kiosks.

Help files for users in the private beta were publicly available online for a short period, according to GigaOM, and contained a significant amount of basic information about the service. The base subscription of $6 a month offers unlimited access to the video rental catalog, while an $8 version adds four Redbox credits that can be used at the Kiosks, though credits will not roll over month to month.

On top of the main packages, Redbox Instant will offer video-on-demand rentals and sales for newer films, with prices starting from $1, and allowing for offline access from some devices. Customers can register up to five devices including those running iOS and Android, Samsung TVs with Smart TV capabilities, some Blu-ray players and the Xbox 360. Streaming through a browser will use Silverlight.

The support pages are now unavailable for those not in the beta, but it is suggested that the service may launch on or just after December 17th.
