27-inch model available to order, but ships in 2-3 weeks

In tandem with its retail availability, the 2012 iMac is now also up for order on Apple's online store. 21.5-inch models are currently shipping in one to three days with stock configurations, or seven to 10 days if built to order. 27-inch models are also on sale, but will only ship in two to three weeks, regardless of whether an order is customized.

Stock iMacs range in price from $1,299 for a 21.5-inch, 2.7GHz Core i5 system with NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics through to $1,999 for a 27-inch, 3.2GHz model with a GeForce GTX 675MX. With build-to-order options such as RAM, video, and processor upgrades and an SSD or a Fusion Drive, however, prices can go as high as $4,249 before picking any special accessories or peripherals.

Beyond performance updates and the Fusion Drive, the main evolution in the new iMac is its casing, which is as thin as 5mm at the edge of the display. The display itself has been redesigned to reduce reflections by 75 percent; earlier iMacs were often criticized for being difficult to use with bright background lights.
