Basis B1 sold out until after the holidays, carries $199 price tag

Basis Science took the wraps off its first product, the Basis B1 fitness-tracking watch. While it is late, having previously been promised to arrive in the early half of the year, it can now be purchased for the same $199 price outlined from the start. The device is, however, sold out for the holidays, so interested buyers will need to place on order to get in on the next batch, though when that will be isn't specified.

The gadget aims to improve a user's health by monitoring his sleep patterns and exercise habits. The device incorporates an accelerometer for movement tracking, an optical blood-flow monitor that tracks heart rate, a perspiration sensor for sweat measurement, along with skin and ambient temperature sensors.

The numbers are then thrown up online in order to be easily deciphered by users. Not meant for hardcore athletes, the B1 stresses things like consistent sleep routines, fitness regiments, and activity levels. It allows users to set goals and keeps them motivated with rewards achievements.

The watch uses Bluetooth 2.1 to transmit data to the cloud. The device won't track food intake, however, which is a key aspect of health-tracking. Basis is also reportedly working on developing mobile apps for the B1, so it may be possible that a diet-tracking feature will arrive in the future.
