Online sales on Thanksgiving also increased
Black Friday e-commerce spending by US shoppers has passed the $1 billion milestone for the first time. The amount of online retail activity for Friday, November 23rd has been called the "heaviest online spending day to date in 2012," with sales increasing 26 percent compared to Black Friday last year.
Data supplied by ComScore also shows the spending for the month of November before Thanksgiving was 16 percent higher than the same period last year, reaching $13.7 billion. The spend on Thanksgiving day itself also rose 32 percent to $633 million, over half the $1.04 billion spent on Black Friday itself. It is suggested that Cyber Monday will still hold firm as the biggest shopping day of the season, with the expected sales of $1.5 billion following trends set in the last three years.
In terms of where customers went to find goods online, Amazon was the most popular destination, followed by Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and Apple. The 57.3 million American shoppers buying online is an increase of 18 percent compared to last year.
