How to check the condition of a used Mac and more

Earlier this week in the MacNN forums, Forum Regular "PeterParker" started a thread proudly announcing the purchase of their new (used) iMac from eBay, and they are wondering if there is a way to find out if it is in tip top shape, or if there are hidden problems waiting to erupt. Forum members discuss why and how to use Screen Sharing in this thread started by Junior Member "Harvey" earlier this week after an inquiry was made about this built-in feature.

Fresh-Faced Recruit "thecutler" had some questions about using Bluetooth dongles instead of using the built-in Bluetooth on their Mac mini, click here to join in on the discussion. A concerned Forum Regular had recently updated to 10.8, and had some questions about FileVault and OS X Firewall in the security settings, click here to read more. "How to save a video clip from the Internet?" is the title of a thread started by Junior Member "Ron K," click here to read more and join in.

Just be careful about who you buy from online. Research the dealer, call them up, get the owner (if it's a small business), and have some specific questions about a product that you *might* want. I had a Powerbook G4 used that essentially fell apart and had subpar battery life after a year of use, and the logic board was not fully tested. Not a "burned" purchase but you have to be a little suspicious with a big investment.

The thread is linked to above, and the guy already bought it.

There is ZERO point in replying to this thread, as the only purpose of this news blurb is to link to the posts in question.

I'm sure you can learn to post responsibly without the need for locks and safeties. ;)

Thread title: how to check the condition of a used Mac

I don't see how my post about checking the condition of a used Mac online was irrelevant... or not "responsible"... the linked thread was about an eBay seller

But I'm sure you can "learn to post responsibly" without the need to have the last word. :
