Facebook to test new ad tracking, event features

updated 02:54 pm EST, Wed November 21, 2012

User timelines to show upcoming events, albums

Facebook is said to be testing new features that would add recently released albums and upcoming events to user timelines. The social network is thought to have been testing the new features over the past month, though it's uncertain when exactly they will be rolled out. Facebook is also looking to add new features to its advertising operation, features that would allow advertisers to see which users clicked on which ads and how often.

Recently released album content would appear in user news feeds with the option to stream albums by artists a user has listened to on Spotify. The feature would build upon an existing feature, which shows upcoming concerts from artists a user has listened to.

The upcoming events feature would suggest nearby events, even if a user has not been invited to a particular event.

The ad system tweaks come as Facebook continues to tailor its platform to make it more attractive to marketers. Its main feature, according to CNet, would be the addition of View Tags, which allow advertisers to use cookies to see which users have viewed their ads.

The social network has been adding features to its ad platform since its initial public offering earlier this year. Last week, Facebook began rolling out a new tool allowing e-retailers to track purchases made by Facebook users that had viewed their ads. [image via TheNextWeb]
