PS Vita system software 2.0 now rolling out

The Sony PlayStation Vita firmware update 2.0 has started to roll out globally bringing with it support for Sony's value-added PlayStation Plus service. However, at the time of writing, Sony has yet to switch on the Plus services at their backend. Additional software enhancements in OS 2.0 include a new email app, faster web browsing, and the ability to assign the touchscreen and rear touchpad in PS One Classic titles.

Users who have previously purchased the PlayStation Plus service for their PS3 will automatically be granted access to the Plus service, when it goes live at Sony's backend. For others, a subscription can be purchased on a three-monthly basis for $18 or for a full year at $50. The line up of free titles for Plus subscribers includes Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush and Chronovolt, while users will also receive 1GB of free cloud storage for game saves.

For the first time, PS Vita users will now also be able to access their email through a native email client, while Twitter has been added as a feature under the PS Network settings. The PS Vita browser has been updated to include better support for HTML5 and Javascript for faster page loading, while the ability to tweet a page has also been added. The browser can also be opened without pausing while playing a game.

The full range of upgrades can be accessed online at the PlayStation Australia website.
