The Australian government is asking the local division of Apple to pay $28.5 million in back taxes, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The change raises Apple's Australian bill for the 2011 fiscal year to $94.7 million. That, however, represents just a fraction of the $4.9 billion in revenue the company pulled in from the country.
Like a number of major corporations, Apple uses tax havens to dodge paying significant taxes in regions like Europe and the US. Some of its havens include Ireland, Luxembourg, and the state of Nevada.
