Tablet packs Tegra 3 processor, Android 4.1

Toshiba lodged a new entry in its line of budget-friendly tablets today, announcing the 10.1-inch AT300SE. The AT300SE is aimed at the UK market, and offers an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor along with its 10.1-inch screen. It also runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, bringing all of the features available in the latter updates to Google's mobile operating system.

In addition to its Tegra 3 processor with Integrated Graphics Controller, the tablet has 1GB of DDR3L-1333 RAM on board. It also packs 16GB of internal storage, a microUSB port, and a microSDTM port with SDHC/SDXC support up to 16GB.

The AT300SE has two cameras, a 3MP rear-facing camera and a 1.2MP front-facing camera. Inside, it has a two-cell 25.0Wh battery.

With Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the AT300SE will see smooth user-interface animations due to Google's Project Butter, which bumps the frame rate for the operating system to 60fps. That version of Android also brings Google Now, the Google search-based digital assistant that now comes standard. There is not yet any indication if the tablet will be able to upgrade to the recently-released Android 4.2 OS.

The AT300SE will be available in the fourth quarter of 2012 in the United Kingdom. It has a suggested retail price of 300 ($476.35US).
