Sits in top 10 for sales per store
Apple remains the most valuable US retailer in terms of sales per square foot, according to new data produced by RetailSails. The company has achieved a figure of $6,050, more than double its closest competitor, Tiffany & Co.. More than $1,000 below Tiffany was lululemon, taking in $1,936 per square foot.
Apple is only ninth in terms of highest sales per store; the top three positions are occupied by Costco, Sam's Club, and Neiman Marcus, respectively. The RetailSails rankings are based on an analysis of over 200 retailers, which together run more than 200,000 stores.
The Apple retail chain is known for its high traffic, particularly on launch weekends. The products it sells are also extremely expensive compared to most retailers, which in some cases has created a liability. Apple Stores are regularly the target of robberies; the value of the products in them combined with the ease of breaking through glass facades may be giving criminals special incentive.
