Sections for Mac, iPhone, iPod, iPad accessories
Apple has added their annual Holiday Gift Guide to their website. The virtual catalog includes both Apple and non-Apple products, accessories built around the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod ecosystems. Though prices are unchanged from normal retail, the listing serves as a showcase for new and interesting products that complement Apple's core devices. This year, a number of devices get promoted across sections--including the Apple TV, and Contour+2 HD mountable sports video camera.
Under the iPad section, the iPad mini (starting at $329) takes pride of place ahead of the fourth-generation full-size iPad (starting at $499). Among the lead accessories featured are the iPad mini Smart Cover ($39), the Apple Store exclusive Fender Stratocaster USB guitar ($200), the Bose Soundlink Air digital music system ($350), the Discovery Bay Duo Pinball slip-in casing for iPad ($60), and Parrot Zik wireless headphones by Starck ($400).
Also featured is the iPad-integrated zAPPed edition of Monopoly ($30) -- which, in a sign of the times, replaces all paper money with a credit card. In addition, the page highlights the Blue Digital Spark USB (and 30-pin connector) microphone ($200), two audio products from Bowers & Wilkins, the aforementioned Apple TV ($99) and (among other items) two more "Apple Store exclusives" -- the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad 2 (and the current third- and fourth-generation), which sells for $100 and comes in black, white and red, and the Disney Creativity Studio for iPad ($50) which includes a child-friendly stylus for drawing and step-by-step instruction from actual Disney artists on how to recreate some of its most popular cartoon characters.
Tellingly, the lead Mac product in the Mac section of the gift guide is the MacBook Air. Accompanying another mention of the Stratocaster, another Apple Store exclusive is the Pioneer DDJ-WeGO DJ USB MIDI controller ($300). Also mentioned as an exclusive is the G-Tech G-Drive USB 3.0 500GB portable hard drive ($80), along with the Michael Kors 15-inch Jet Set Travel Tote for the MacBook Pro ($300), available in four shades. Also listed as exclusive to the Apple Store is the Carl Haan Messenger Bag for MacBook Pro ($380) and the Victorinox Swiss Army 16GB Jetsetter USB drive ($50), which includes scissors, a nail file with screwdriver, clamshell opener, ballpoint pen, tweezers, and key ring in a flight-friendly design.
Under the iPhone section, the lead gift is unsurprisingly the iPhone 5 itself. The lead accessory underneath it is the Nike+ FuelBand, a $150 monitoring wristlet that measures all movement and calories burned as well as functioning as a wristwatch. Also featured are the Uncommon Deflector Case for the iPhone 5 ($35), the Jambox by Jawbone Bluetooth mini-speaker ($180), the $130 Sphero robot by Orbotix, two Bluetooth-controlled model car kits from Silverlit ($80 each) and the $29 Lightning-to-30-pin adapter, among other options.
Last but not least, the iPod section of the gift guide highlights the new fifth-generation iPod touch. In addition to the present-in-every-section Contour+2 video camera, USB Stratocaster and Apple TV, the section highlights various headphones, speakers and the Apple loop for the iPod Touch. The company does also mention the iPod nano in the gift guide, the only other iPod featured. All four "pages" of the gift guide also remind users of the gift value of iPhoto created photo books, calendars and holiday cards. Apple Store gift cards are also featured, at the bottom of each page, in various denominations.
