Fitbit releases new Fitbit One tracker

updated 03:31 pm EST, Tue November 13, 2012

Fitbit One is all-day digital activity and sleep tracker

Fitbit today announced the availability of its Fitbit One digital tracker, a device that automatically logs users' activities during the day and transfers them to a laptop or mobile device. The company had previously announced the Fitbit One in September of this year, and today brings news that it is finally available, along with the Fitbit Zip, an entry-level tracker offering more basic functionality.

The new Fitbit One clips onto a user's clothes, tracking the number of steps one takes, the distance traveled, the calories burned, floors climbed, and a user's sleep quality. All this information can be synced via Bluetooth 4.0 to devices like the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and third-generation and above iPad using Fitbit's mobile app. Users can then check their stats against daily goals, compete with friends and acquaintances on leaderboards, and receive encouragement throughout the day to remain active.

Fitbit also plugs into popular health and fitness apps like Endomondo, LoseIt, MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal, and Sparkpeople, allowing users to share data with thsoe apps.

The device easily fits into a pocket clips to a bra or belt. It is splash-, rain-, and sweat-proof, and it features a brighter display than its predecessor, allowing for easier reading day or night. It also features a Silent Wake alarm that gently vibrates to tell a user when it is time to wake. This alarm can be controlled from the online dashboard or mobile app.

The Fitbit One is available in red or black at Fitbit's site. It retails for $100.
