Update brings multi-window feature to Sprint's Note II

updated 04:41 pm EST, Wed November 7, 2012

Note II update also brings email, notification changes

Owners of Sprint's Galaxy Note II will soon receive an over-the-air system update that will give the handset improved multitasking capabilities. The Multi Window feature was absent from the Note II when it was released, but today's update will bring the feature to Samsung's 'phablet,' allowing them to run two applications on the screen at the same time. It also brings slight changes to email and message notifications.

Alongside Multi Window, the update changes the email app so that emails go to the phone's outbox when in airplane mode or when no coverage is available. Message notifications also will now only beep when received during a voice call.

Note II owners can check their current software configurations by going to the Settings screen and selecting About device. The update is being pushed out to handsets in stages on a random basis. Users will receive a network notification when their handset is eligible for an update. Upon receiving the update notification, users will have the option to install the update immediately or to delay until later. Should a user choose to delay, she will receive a reminder once or twice a day until the update has been installed.

Samsung recommends that the user's battery be fully charged before the update. The update may take several minutes to complete.
